Between 1932 and 1940 the black and white adventure was published in Le Petit Vingtiéme with the title of Les Adventures de Tintin en Extréme – Orient. This brought together two adventures, Cigars of the Pharaoh, and The Blue Lotus.
In 1936 Casterman publish the 124 page black and white edition of The Blue Lotus. Today this adventure is considered as Hergé’s masterpiece, the turning point in his artistic career. As a storyteller, as a draughtsman and as a documenter of the world around him.
His friendship with Chang Chong-Chen gave him a window on a new way of seeing and thinking. Their collaboration allowed Hergé to express his desire to be open to differences and to draw inspiration from them.
