This character, Dr Krollspel appears in Flight 714 to Sydney. He is rather a weird sort of character for Hergé to create, his attire of cycling shorts (or kidnapping shorts), sunglasses, baseball boots and cap could be of this very moment, but here we are in 1968!
In fact, Rastapopoulos’s gang really excel themselves with their outfits, I mean cowboy outfits, and Mate Alan with his gun holster.
So back to Krollspel, not such a good doctor as he gets careless with that giant hypodermic needle. He does end up helping Tintin, however Hergé chooses to place him back with the bad lot, we last see him on page 58 A3. Hergé explains later that he was found wandering outside the city of Cairo. Hopefully, he resumed his practice as Head of Psychiatry once his memory returned.
This figure stays true to Hergé’s drawing of him, a worthwhile model to add to this fascinating range of characters from the “Greeting Cards 1972”
